| Aikido focus on ryu, the flow of force. Chinese called it jing. But ryu is even harder, sometimes got to do with flow of movement. For instance, with Japanese sword to sword combat, in reality the sword dont necessary knock each others.. In Wudang sword it is called bi qing jing hong men, avoid the blade, got for the soft flesh.
Weapon learning can enhance understanding of jing or ryu in empty hand. Later with further learning in empty hand will further enhance understanding in cm sword, that is the hardest to learn.
The Master in the clip shows not the best shenfa and bufa. My apology.

ps forgot to add, Aikido has the best falling tech. It is great exercise and training, conditioning, which is not in so called internal cma.

| Sorry Tank, ryu as in 流...flow, mostly movement flow, but aiki emphasis flow of focus force eg 大東流合気, 糸東流空手, daito ryu aiki, shitoryu karate Chinese use men,門, means door, gate, or handguard, eg, 六合門,八極門,白鶴門,黑虎門 , liuhemen, baji men, white crane men, black tiger men, etc. each men has different unique core hand techs. pai, is emphasis of force flow, eg 武當派, wudang pai. IMHO. because no one has ever talked about this, thought i give it some input. 武當劍的特點:乘虛蹈隙避青入紅 Over | |

but i dont really agree the Ryu have the same meaning of "Flowing" Is ok, just personal opinion. Ryu was used to describe how sword is used in the early days. Each Ryu has its own trade mark or style to flow between/deflect swords and deliver the strike. Eg 二刀流nitō ryu. or so called Ni-Ten Ichi Ryu. Over | |

| Interesting food placement in the stance. Would certainly give you great stability. This must be unique to this style of Aikido.
I trained for a year in both Kokikai & Tomiki Aikido. The placement of the front foot was parallel to the centreline.
Usually Aikido enters to the inside or the outside. Other than 1 or 2 steps - I think it would be hard to travel quickly in a linear direction.

| I trained Tomiki Aikido in North Ryde - part of the RSL's sports complex. It was a long time ago - around 2001.
I trained Kokikai Aikido - Maquarie Uni around 2004.
Tomiki was very "hands on"/ practical techniques. The club never really talked about "Ki". Footwork was very simular to Kendo/Kumdo which I was used to.
Kokikai talked a lot about "Ki" & blending - drills & fightings techniques were too relaxed to use. A lot of "Ki" exercises like checking stances/grounding. Yet showed no techniques (like ZZ or meditation etc) on how to feel/build it.
