Unless you run fast....this is really not the best way.
Run to the guy who is the weakest.....judge by muscle mass and height....using beng to take him (by checking the thickness of the chest) down. No hesitation.
Once you break the circle and take one guy down with beng. Then Run and partially face opponents.
Try to take a rout and make them form a line. That is the aikido randori method.
Because not all mind think the same.
If you just run like crazy....back is totally exposed....unless you think you can out run them...your fate is pretty sealed. Interestingly, most of gang their physical stamina is not the best sound bc of binge drinking, women and late night.......Most of them fight well in the first five min or so. After that, very tired.
Instead of run like crazy....run with good pace...and observed them. Usually the punch is not as painful if you flow in same direction.
So it is important for us to have a 30mind run before martial art work out. Very important.
That is also the method one of the mantis master taking down 30 something korean gangster in Korea few decades ago. Of course he has got anqi (hidden weapon) with him during the time. Strike few of them on the side of head (above and in front of the ear), and possibly kill two or three of them.
