| Yeh,
I was actually quite surprised that they come.
I thought they were once again brought there by Gordon but they came because they saw us on the net.
Good work guys.

Hello Ben, I was happy to see you here. No we are not uncomfortable with you here but you see sometimes our guys are very Cantonese orienated and so people such as the new comers and Shingo (the Japanese guy lol) gets left out a bit. We gather not to simply BE HAPPY, we want to share our martial arts around as well as make new friends and you fit this description. So if we ever start grouping and start talking Cantonese, don't mind us as that's what we're like lol. If any time you wish to cut in and ask one of us to teach you any Martial Arts, just slightly tap one of us on the shoulder and ask... can you show me this this and that? The convo goes on and remember that you're NOT DISTRACTING US. (yeh, since we train at a very relaxed format if we don't train then we chat) A slight outline of what each of us specialise in (I'll list the guy whose specialised in that art as each of us learn more than 1 style) Names will go in Alphabetical Order (Correct me if I'm wrong) - Calvin - Shaolin Wu Chu Chuan (very hard style) - Eric/ET - Shaolin Black Tigers (lots of forms + weapons) - Gordon - Ba Gua (walking around a circle) - Michael - Tai Chi (soft style) - Shingo - Mantis (hard style) - Tim - Wing Chun (midline style) - Vincent - Choy Li Fut (hard style) - William - BJJ (fight on the floor style) OTHER ARTS ARE ALSO KNOWN BY US, ask if we know [art x] to find out Calvin

| No worries, Ben.
You will soon get used to the Cantonese environment. As Calvin said I don't speak Cantonese, but I pretend to understand it at the training (even everyone else knows I don't understand it).
Instead of ignoring their conversations in Cantonese, I usually listen to them. Now I am slowly picking up some words and I sometimes ask them some words and pronunciation in Cantonese. So, I have been learning Kungfu as well as Cantonese.
See you on Sat
Shingo
PS. It may take me another 100 light years to fully understand Cantonese though... |

Cantonese is one of the hardest languages to learn in the whole world. With the difficult Chinese characters when written + the way we speak is simply difficult I bet I wouldn't want to be learning Cantonese if it wasn't my mother language >.< (yes I'm the lazy type) Calvin

| I have been trying to learn some Cantonese myself also, I learn a little bit from friends who are from Hong Kong as well as from watching too many 70s/80s Hong Kong action films since I was younger.
When I try to use it, people either say my effort is good, or they laugh at me. I find that more people laugh at me, so now I don't bother to try haha.

| Thanks for the advice on Cantonese, Kungfu Bro G and C. It was very helpful.
I have to be multilingual just in case the British intelligence or CIA takes me as an international espionage specialised in finding and killing mushrooms. |

Actually Ben, I think if you are to learn Cantonese, it would be healthier to really learn it by starting from basics. Listening to it and always be around the language is a good way to practice, PROVIDING that you have some basic foundations to it. If you can't even say 1-10 in Cantonese or know some basic vocab and grammar, I think it would be close to impossible to learn it. In other words, our conversations would only be a group of syllables with no meaning behind it. I think if you're really serious about learning the language, get yourself an actual books which teaches you Chinese. Then every week come and ask us about it, I think that would be a more direct and effective way to go about learning Cantonese. Calvin
